Alstom has been awarded a contract worth around €85 million ($115 million) by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd to supply components for three units of 660-mw supercritical boilers of Nabinagar Power Generating Company Ltd (NPGCL), a joint venture company of NTPC Ltd and Bihar State Electricity Board.

Under the scope of the contract, Alstom will co-operate with BHEL in designing the boilers and supply identified pressure parts of the 660-mw supercritical boilers, along with pulverisers and airpreheater components. It will also assist BHEL with technical advisors during the erection and commissioning of the units, a release by Alstom said. The units are expected to be commissioned by FY18. Key components will be manufactured in Alstom’s manufacturing facilities in Wellsville and Concordia (USA), as well as in Durgapur (West Bengal, India) and Shahabad (Uttar Pradesh, India).

Incidentally, the turbine-generator package for the Nabinagar project will be supplied by Alstom Bharat Forge Power Ltd, the joint venture company between Alstom and Bharat Forge Ltd.

Alstom during the period 2008 and 2012 signed six contracts with BHEL for supplying supercritical boiler components for 660-mw, 700-mw and 800-mw rated units associated with the Barh II, Krishnapatnam, Bara, Yeramaras, Bellary and Mouda projects.
