Central transmission utility
Power Grid Corporation of
India has planned to add
52,000 ckm of transmission lines in
the XII Plan, the company's
chairman & managing director, S.K.
Chaturvedi, recently said. The
company has envisaged a total
capital expenditure of
1 lakh crore
for the XII Plan period that would be
80 per cent higher than the estimated
capex for the ongoing XI Plan period.
PGCIL has also targeted to install 70
new substations and a total
transformation capacity of 1,36,000
MVA in the next Plan period.

Meanwhile, PGCIL is on course to
achieving its targeted capital
expenditure for the XI Plan period. In
FY12, the terminal year of the ongoing
Plan period, PGCIL will incur capital
expenditure of
17,700 crore,
involving 8,400 ckm of transmission
lines and 18,000 MVA of
transformation capacity. With
37,400
crore already spent in the first four
years of the XI Plan period, the
company's total capex in the Plan
period will be well over the targeted
55,000 crore.
For its FY12 capex, PGCIL will use
2,000 crore from the follow-on public
offer proceeds while another
4,000
crore could be raised through equity
sale, subject to government approval.
